InterNational Scrapbook Day – Blog Hop + Giveaway

International Scrapbook Day is May 5, 2012 and it’s one of my favorite days of the year! I adore the new kits, the savings, and the internet camaraderie of like-minded, scrafty people united in celebration of this amazing hobby. Oh my, I’m getting verklempt. Talk amongst yourselves. I’ll give you a topic, a pillow is neither a pill or low, DISCUSS!

As part of the hoopla that is interNational Scrapbook Day at Design House Digital, the designers collaborated their efforts into a new kit collection called Retrospect:

You can get it FREE! That’s right; I said wrote free. And you don’t have to hammer the internet downloading every single piece. Visit the DHD shop and pick it up — using the coupon code. Where’s the code? Oh you’ll need to “hop” along through our blogs. So if you landed here at Simply Tiffany first, stop and head back to the beginning.

At this point of my post, I’m ‘posed to offer you a tip or technique of some kind. Hmm, what should I say? Well, call me crazy if you want to but I’m going to do something purely selfish! I think I’ve earned it over my tenure of offering new tips and techniques all over the web. So I’m going to point you to the Tutorials section of this here website. I’ve got  A LOT of tips over yonder and you’re sure to find something useful.

However, my all-time favorite tip is How to Alter the Color of Digital Alpha Letters Using Hue/Saturation Adjustments Layers. Yes there is a specify process you’ll want to use. Mosey on over and check it out.

Totally Rad | AMPED Giveaway

Most of you know I’m a HUGE fan of Totally Rad’s RadLab. Not too long ago, they introduced AMPED, 20 presets for Lightroom 4. Whoa momma!

Amped features a spectrum of color tweaks using LR4’s new RGB curves. It’s a great complement to their Original Lightroom presets. And you can set the right balance for image tweaks using light, medium, or strong controls.

It rocks. Nuff said. And I’m very, very amped to give one copy away today!

AMPED Giveaway

To enter for your chance to win a copy of AMPED, tell us your favorite effect to apply to a photo! You could write black and white conversions, color pops, retro-look, or anything in between. You must post your comment by May 4, 2012 11:59 pm EST. We’ll announce the winner on May 5, 2012. Only one entry per person. Good luck!

Everyday Storyteller | Practical Ideas for Scrapbooking Giveaway

Everyday Storyteller combines the efforts of 33 amazing scrapbookers into one, cool e-book. I was honored to receive an invitation to contribute and what else could I talk about other than, you guessed it, sketching!

Why should scrapbookers start with a sketch? The words, the photos, even the papers and colors become unimportant allowing you to concentrate purely on the page’s design.

You can concentrate on where the photos should go, how much space to reserve for journaling, and designate the best spots for embellishments. Oftentimes, I find my most eye-catching scrapbook pages were created when I didn’t get “hung up” on the details. I allowed myself to simply be free during the sketching process!

Whenever I need to craft page templates, I start from a sketch — honest engine. And in Everyday Storyteller, you’ll discover my practical tips for sketching page thumbnails quickly plus peek into my own sketchbook for more ideas.

Have you signed up to attend the official, online launch party for Everyday Storyteller on Friday, May 4th? Why not! There will be more than $700 in prizes given away from sponsors during the party. Click here to add your name to the VIP list. Yes, you can wear your pajamas to the party.

New Modern Masters | The Five Second Artist Tutorial | Giveaway

New in my shoppe this Thursday is the next bundle of Modern Masters!

The Difference
Modern Master Templates no. 21 – 24 are specifically different from their predecessors. The background brushwork spans the entire page — from margin to margin. While my previous Masters feature brushwork that is confined to a centralized portion of the page.

The Five Second Modern Masters Tutorial
Want to know why I REALLY love my Masters? I mean seriously, I like all that I do — some more than others — but my Masters take me from no design to amazing design in five seconds. Look.

Basic Page | Linear/Minimalist Design

Five seconds later …

Basic Page | Linear/Artistic Design

What’s the secret(s)?
The paper you choose! Or the photo. Or the digital object you clip to the brushwork presented in the template. All you have to do to make a Master shine is to clip a paper with an immaculate design to the brushwork. Scrapaneers, check out today’s email newsletter for more tips on picking artistic background papers.

Another key tip is to run with contrasting colors. In my example above, I chose a textured white for my background and paired it with a strong, deep blue. The brushwork edging stands out because of the contrasting colors.

You might recognize the design of this specific template. I originally created the brushwork for this layout.

It’s Elemental | Winner

Girl, lemme tell you! Perhaps you’ve noticed the mini-hiatus from posts. One by one, the kids and I fell prey to that *hacking*coughing*sneezing*snotting*snorting*achy* so you really can’t sleep syndrome. It’s that time of year when all you can do is rest in between the insistent blows of your nose bugle.

But like all good crappy times, our cooties passed. I’m jumping back into my blogging saddles and I’ve got loads more cooties to share — of the good kind.

Without further delay: the winner of a complimentary seat into It’s Elemental | the Workshop, is:

Lori! Hot diggity-dog! Send me a message and let’s get you registered. Thanks everyone! I’ll see you tomorrow here on the blog!
