The Evolution of the 52 Series
Herein describes what will be the evolution of the 52 Template Series.
One year ago today, I began the 52 template series with the purpose of offering some ‘thing’ to a community I love AND peace to others. Since that time, I’ve drafted 35 templates — well short of my 52 mark — yet still satisfying my purpose. I’ve had enough beta-experience to examine what’s worked, what hasn’t, and what the future means for 52 … to me and to you.
The 52 template series has been downloaded over 45,000 times. That’s an astounding number! It’s also a humbling number. Makes me feel good because my design efforts were appreciated. A pat on the back; a job well done. The silent approval. The finished layout that came together because your efforts met with my template. That’s an experience I treasure even if we don’t speak it every time.
However, my goal was to offer MORE than just a download. I wanted to add design tips, inspiration, and fresh insights. Occasionally, I did. But more often than not, I found myself accomplishing only the template download. The words, and the time to craft the words, just wouldn’t come.
Fear was partly to blame. Fear of the response, fear of the unknown, and fear of rejection. I’ve grown enough over the year and understand those fears are all part of the creative cycle.
Acknowledging fear is accepting the challenge of courage. So to hell with fear.
The other part was scheduling. With some help from GTD, a few apps like Hit List, and one rocking part-time nanny who keeps my head from spinning off, I’ve made time to follow through with my original commitment. I couldn’t be more geeked.
So the 52 series will evolve into a twice-monthly set of downloads related to templates (or some other cool ‘thing’) offered exclusively to my newsletter subscribers. For the month of March, I’ll offer four templates. They’re already done.
The newsletter (which will continue to be a free email), features digital scrapbooking topics by me. You’ll hear my voice, uncover my unique process related to the topic, and I’ll encourage you to share your own so we can build upon one another. How in-depth will our topics become? I dunno! I’m completely open to this new experience and writing challenge.
Let’s just jump on the train and see where it goes.
